The Dashboard |
The "Bird's Eye View" |
Your project Dashboard lets you see all your clients and projects on one screen. Each project name links to that project's extranet site.
You can work with an unlimited number of clients and projects, and clients with multiple projects are grouped together.
Your clients can also view the Dashboard, but when they see it they just see their own projects. You can also subscribe to an RSS feed that keeps you updated on everything you see on the Dashboard. |
-
Anything that's late appears in a red box at the top of the screen so you don't miss it.
-
Your logo appears in the upper-right and the name of your Basecamp site at the top of the screen.
-
Any milestones due in the next 14 days are plotted and linked on a calendar, starting with today's date. If there are no milestones in the next 14 days, the next 3 milestones are listed.
-
A list of your active and on-hold projects is sorted by client.
-
The "Latest activity" list shows you your most recently updated projects and the newest stuff in each one. Each item is either labeled a comment, message, to-do item, file, or milestone.

TO-DO LISTS |
Use the To-Do section to make sure all the little things get done. For example, a list might be titled "Bugs to fix on the home page" and include items with checkboxes like "Colored bar doesn't display on old browsers" or "Revise the welcome text" or "Try blue instead of purple." Adding items is simple. If you want you can assign a responsible party for the item. |
- Completed items are automatically stamped with a date when they are checked off.
- Make a list "Private" so your clients don't see it.

MESSAGES |
Project management is Communication |
Messages are the foundation of our help desk. Messages can announce project updates, show design reviews, ask questions, solicit feedback, and more. Messages appear in reverse chronological order so the latest information is always at the top of the screen. Messages can contain text or images and can be supplemented with specially called-out links to files and web sites. |

COMMENTS |
People like talking back |
Communication is a two-way street. Our help desk lets clients create their own posts (if you give them permission) or leave comments on your posts. Comments can be formatted just like posts — complete with bold text, italics, links, even bullet lists or images. |
-
Receive notification of new comments via email.
-
Want to take a conversation offline or contact somebody directly? Email addresses and phone numbers for those participating in a discussion are automatically available on the same page as the discussion itself.
-
Upload photos to identify who's talking at a glance.
-
Posting a comment is as easy as posting a comment on a blog.

MILESTONES |
Simple scheduling done right |
Our help desk lets you track important project milestones and note who is responsible for each one. Our help desk automatically categorizes your milestones into late (shown in red), upcoming (shown in yellow) or completed (shown in green) milestones. You can add new milestones one at a time or up to 10 at a time. |
-
Checkboxes let you move items from "Upcoming" to "Completed" with one click.
-
Our help desk plots and color-codes milestones on a calendar for easy scanning. Blue is today, yellow is upcoming, green is completed, and red is late.
-
Related messages and to-do items are automatically linked from Milestones page.

FILES |
Upload, share and store |
Our help desk allows you and your clients to upload, share, and store files on our servers. When you upload a file through our help desk, it is automatically linked for easy download inside your project. You can upload files on their own or attach them to messages (think email attachments). |
-
The Files page lists all the files that have been uploaded to a particular project. Click the icon or name to download it.
-
You can sort files by date uploaded or alphabetical.
-
Group and organize your files into categories you create.

TIME TRACKING |
Get on the clock |
|
With our help desk you can keep track of how much time people are spending on their projects. Pick a person, enter their hours (or fractions of hours), then create Reports to see hours logged within a date range for a particular person or everybody.
You can also enable time tracking on your to-do lists. Click the clocks beside the checkboxes to log hours against specific tasks. You'll know exactly who's doing what and how long it took them. |
